the tenth of November
1. I have no home. Instead I share an a apartment in Boston with a friend who has already lived here two years.
2. I have no lover. The lover I had lives in my home with our two cats & with two roommates who are our mutual friends.
3. Next week I may be fired from my job. If I am fired I will have a year & a half in which to find myself a new job. On the other hand I may not be fired, in which case the people who do not fire me may think they have kept me forever.
4. Nobody keeps anyone else forever.
5. I have just dropped half a tab of clear light acid, which is slowly coming on as I write this.
6. I love many people: Nico, Tom, Peggy, Larry, Russ, Tom, Larry, Bob, Clive, Linda, Michael, Dick, Emmett, Virginia, Miguel, Rose, Lee, mijn geest lijke vader in Edam, Rimpy, Mijnsje, and perhaps others I do not remember. I also care a great deal about many other people I have not yet learned to love.
7. The sun is shining in Boston for only the third day in the last month. That is true even though autumn is the only sure season of good weather in the northeast.
8. There is probably better weather elsewhere in the world, but one should not count on better weather except in states of exultant euphoria, southern New Mexico and parts of California.
9. Sometimes people talk about the weather when they do not want to talk about anything else. Sometimes people are silent.
10. Richard Nixon, the Boston subway system, and the United States of America are eruptions that will vanish from the skin of the planet before the tenth of November in the year 2000. On the tenth of November in the year 2000 my lover and all my loves and all the people I have not yet learned to love will rejoice together in the sunshine and the weather will be forever what we have made it from our shards and fossils and the rusty needles of reknitted hearts.
